The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is one of two Healing Sacraments, alongside Reconciliation. It can be requested by anyone undergoing anesthesia, facing a serious or worsening illness, or dealing with the challenges of aging.
Anointing of the Sick is sometimes mistaken for the Last Rites, but they are not the same. Last Rites consists of three Sacraments: Anointing, Reconciliation, and the Eucharist (in the form of Viaticum, the final reception of the Eucharist).
